Renée Rouleau Looks Back at the Last 15 Years

This month is my 15th year business anniversary. Renée Rouleau Skin Care started in 1996, and I’m happy to say that it’s going stronger than ever (considering that approximately 95% of all small businesses will fail in the first five years).

Fifteen years is a big milestone, here’s my back story.

In 1991 when I was just 21 years old, me and a co-worker opened up a skin care salon in Wellesley, MA. Despite five incredibly successful years and an amazing partnership, I needed a change in my life, and Texas came calling. Not because I knew anyone or had friends or family there, but simply because Texans were about the friendliest, most hard-working and most welcoming people I’d ever met and I knew it was a place I’d really love. (Loving country music was a plus).

Opening up a business when you don’t know a soul can be challenging, but I planned for a year before I moved so I felt confident I’d make it – despite friends and family calling me crazy… Read more

LeSpa in Los Angeles Welcomes Celebrity Esthetician Renée Rouleau

I recently returned from my first visit to L.A. where I gave facials and skin consultations for four days at LeSpa in the beautiful Hotel Sofitel. (Located at Beverly and La Cienega.)

To give you the back-story on how this came to be, I wanted to have a presence in Los Angeles because I have many clients who live there that have facial treatments with me when they are in Dallas (and some even fly out to Dallas just for their facial) so the demand for me being in L.A. was there. However, I didn’t want to open up a new location simply because I don’t live there. So I have partnered with LeSpa at Hotel Sofitel to be able use one of their private VIP facial rooms, several times a year for my clients. Some of my visits will be before awards shows to ensure my celebrity clients have glowing skin for their red carpet appearances.

My first visit was absolutely fabulous. It was really fun to use another facility as I got a lot of great ideas to bring back to my own Dallas and Plano skin care spas. LeSpa is a beautiful spa with very talented massage therapists and estheticians. (I was able to find some time for my own pampering and had an amazing massage with Nicole)… Read more

Interview with Renée Rouleau: What’s Her Favorite Food, Jeans and Indulgence?

I was recently interviewed for a magazine, and the questions were rather fun so I thought I’d share a bit about my personal side!

Home is: where the heart is. My husband and I live on 40 acres out in the country and we have three Dobermans that we rescued. It’s just so peaceful and beautiful – for all of us.

Morning routine: I’m generally not a morning person so I usually wake up at 8:00. Sunscreen goes on ASAP. (Read: My Five Favorite Sun Protection Tips)

I sleep in: any chance I get. I do believe sleep is essential for the health of your skin, body and stress reduction. Without a good night’s sleep, I’m useless… Read more

What I Know For Sure About Skin

As an esthetician practicing skin for 25 years, I’ve observed a lot about people’s skin and faces from giving facial treatments. As it turns out, I can observe a lot from behind the chair.

Here’s what I know for sure when it comes to the skin.

1. No two sides of the face are the same.

I don’t know about you, but I’ve always been told that one side of the body is different from the other, and I know this to be true with the face as well. With most people, one eyebrow or cheekbone is always higher.

2. Everyone has blackheads.

You’re not alone with your frustration about your blackheads. Truthfully, almost everyone has them. Granted, some are larger and more noticeable than others since some people have larger pores than others, but across the board it’s a common concern for all.
