Skin Ingredient Spotlight: Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronic Acid – It’s a component of your skin’s own natural tissue that is frequently used in skin care products as a good skin-identical ingredient, since the skin responds and accepts it easily into the skin. It’s a bioactive hydrating ingredient to bind 1000 times its weight in moisture to the skin and commonly found in toners (alcohol-free), specialty serums, moisturizers and eye creams. It’s also known as Sodium Hyaluronate and has been used for years and continues to be one of the most commonly used skin-hydrating ingredients. With continued use, skin’s water content improves daily and fine lines and wrinkles become plumper and therefore less visible.

It is also used as an injectable by dermatologists for filling in lines and wrinkles since the body doesn’t really see it as a foreign substance since it’s found in our own bodies.

Sensitive Skin? Tips to Keep Skin Calm

Sensitive skin has special needs. Skin care expert, Renée Rouleau offers helpful tips and advice for keeping skin calm.

-Wash with a gentle cleanser. Washing your face in the morning and at night is essential to having healthy skin but what you also need to be conscious of is the cleanser that you use. Use a cleanser that will not dry your skin out because this will inevitably cause unwanted damage.

Many foaming and gel cleansers, made today, are formulated with ingredients like Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Sodium Laureth Sulfate or Ammonium Laureth Sulfate. These are surfactants; a cleansing agent that cuts oil from the skin. These ingredients are simply too harsh and will strip the water out of the skin after every washing, leaving the skin feeling tight and creating more irritation and potential redness. Keep in mind– More lather, more drying. Less lather, less drying. See the collection of Renée Rouleau cleansers that are sulfate-free… Read more

When exfoliating the skin with acids, peels, retinol, scrubs and laser treatments—both at-home or professional—it’s really important to incorporate products with soothing, anti-inflammatory ingredients into your skin care routine.
