Let me start by saying, we love chemical peels for the many skin benefits they can provide. While we highly recommend getting a professional chemical peel, do know that it is best performed from November to May, when less time is spent outdoors, to prevent exposing newly peeled skin to the sun.
Chemical peels help to:
-Fade post-breakout dark or red marks
-Reduce the appearance of lines, wrinkles, acne scars and chicken pox marks
-Lighten brown spots and freckles
-Create a smoother, brighter skin…
Note: For those with skin of color (African-American in particular), it’s best to have only light peels to prevent the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. It’s always best to get a thorough consultation before having any chemical peels performed.
With most peels, clients will experience dryness and flaking for 4-7 days, but it shouldn’t interfere with your day-to-day activities. That said, you should avoid prolonged and direct sun exposure.
Since chemical peels give a great result, many people think getting them more often will make their skin look even better. Peels are best done in moderation and most types should not be performed more than once a month.

Comments:
I wonder if you could help me. Recently I had a Jessners peel, part of my skin peeled off around my mouth & chin but my cheeks & forehead did not peel & now I just have dry wrinkled skin, that makes me look even older. My skin was in pretty good shape before hand I just like to get a peel a few times a year. I use Serums with C, Hyaluronics, Maxtrixyl, all the good ones with a moisturizer & sunscreen. How am I going to get this dead skin off ? Will exfoliating do it ?

I really can’t advise on this without seeing your skin. You can schedule a virtual consultation here. https://www.reneerouleau.com/spas/virtual-consultations It would be best to also consult with the person who did the peel to express your concerns. I will mention this, the peel may have broken your skin’s moisture barrier so my guess is that you need to repair that and not do any exfoliation right now. You obviously just exfoliated with the peel and if your skin is dry from it, more exfoliation won’t solve that. Article never addresses why peels are best Nov – May…

Hi Walter, First paragraph addresses this. “While we highly recommend getting a professional chemical peel, do know that it is best performed from November to May, when less time is spent outdoors, to prevent exposing newly peeled skin to the sun.”
