It’s Me: Renée. January 2015 Edition

Here’s the latest edition of what’s going on in my world as shown in the picture above, along with some exciting news! (See my other personal posts.)

Last year, I traveled up to Minnesota to celebrate Grandma Rouleau’s 100th birthday. It was such a celebration to see her still so vibrant, as evident by how much she was dancing. This year she is 101 and my oldest sister, my two cousins and I went to visit her recently and she still continues to amaze us. Read her secrets to a long and healthy life. I do have her genes so I’m going to take her advice in hopes of following in her dancing footsteps.

My husband, our two dobermans and I are expanding our company and relocating to Austin, TX at the end of Feb 2015. New experiences are the reason we live and while we have enjoyed our time in Dallas and living in our beautiful home in the country, we are ready to dip our toes into something new, fresh and life changing. As for Renée Rouleau Skin Care, we are moving our warehouse distribution and corporate office to Austin and will be opening up our third skin care spa!! Here in Dallas, our two locations are busier than ever and will continue to be run by our amazing spa director, Roxie, and our team of talented estheticians. I will be coming back monthly to continue to take my clients (as well as continuing to see clients in LA and NY) so no changes there. Business as usual. While Dallas will always be my first Texas love and I look forward to more great times here on my visits, life is about growing and we’re ready to enjoy a new, urban life in our home on the East side of downtown.

Why the move? Well, we do have a lot of clients there that have always asked us to expand to Austin but truly, it was Facebook. Yep. A simple link to an article shared by a friend’s husband was all it took. You can read it here and perhaps you’ll get a little fire in your belly to get out of your comfort zone. Austin, here we come. (As for when the new skin care spa will be up and running, it’s TBD but no worries, we’ll be sure to let everyone know when we open! We are hiring two full-time warehouse associates and one full-time office manager. See our careers page.

I have posted my three resolutions for this year. Use a fitness tracker daily, make more time for friends and family and embrace a new life in Austin, TX.

I have a bucket list. Things to do and experiences I want to have in my life. ‘Be a server and wait tables for a day’ is now checked off of my bucket list. Life is about new experiences and getting out of your comfort zone and I sure did do that recently for my first time ever waiting tables.

What I learned…
1. Serious teamwork and timing is everything. A server is only as good as the rest of the crew behind them and beside them. A restaurant is a well-orchestrated play and each person has to do their own part and if one doesn’t have their A-game on, everyone is affected.

2. Give love to the cooks and dishwashers in the kitchen! Those guys are working like crazy back there so showing appreciation and bringing them water and soda goes a long, long way.

3. Anticipate your customers’ needs. Stay focused. Be one step ahead of them at all times. They should never have to ask for a refill of water.

4. Mirror your table’s personality. If they are in a fun mood, be social. If they are serious, tone it down.

5. Know the menu. People want guidance when ordering … what’s good, what’s the crowd favorite? Being well-versed in the menu is essential to a good dining experience for the customer which then translates to a better tip! *For all you server soldiers out there, thank you for your service. This work is NOT easy.

Thank you to Tanoshii Ramen Bar for making this happen for me. Great food! The reward came after my shift, when I got to enjoy the most savory lemongrass chicken, ramen with dumplings and the ginger crème brûlée for dessert.

Next up, my friend George is going to let me sell car wax for an afternoon at a kiosk at Sam’s Club! I’m game!

Singer, Demi Lovato has been my client for the last six years. I see her sometimes in Dallas but mostly I see her in Los Angeles where I give her facials and other skin treatments. At a recent concert in New Hampshire, she set up a personal meet-and-greet with my youngest niece just a few minutes before she went on stage. It was so sweet of Demi to offer to meet her and my niece will never forget it. Read how Demi cares for her skin.

There’s always something cooking in our skin care kitchen. We’re about to launch our new and improved Purifying Face Wash. From time to time, I’ll update formulas to make them even better and I know this one will be a great change for sensitive skin types. I’m also working on a new moisturizer for skin type #6 and updating our AHA/BHA Cleansing Gel with some new ingredients to make it even better for clearing acne and clogged pores. Stay tuned!

I recently had a two-page editorial photo shoot and interview in Dallas’ Paper City magazine. They came out to my house and took what felt like thousands of photos. Wow, you have to have a lot of patience to be a model, it was hard work! The feature turned out great and I was really honored to be profiled in such a great magazine. We’ve also had some buzz about the Austin expansion in Culture Map and New Beauty also did a feature about a day in my life, so that’s a
fun little read. You can keep up with my world on Instagram.

I’m someone who likes to change things up. Never sit still. So part of this included a recent remodel of the reception area of our Plano skin care spa. As you can see in the photo above, there are two tables with products on them. We previously had a big couch but clients love to sit and play with products when they are stopping in or waiting for their appointment so this new layout proves to be more of what our clients enjoy. Come in and see us!

So, that’s what’s on my mind and what I’ve been up to. I hope you had a wonderful holiday season and 2015 brings you new beginnings for a happy and healthy year.
