What are YOUR top three skin concerns? Things have changed a lot for me since having kids. My skin has become much drier and even more sensitive. My skin concerns are mainly dryness, sensitivity, anti-aging (like everyone), and breakouts. I don’t break out nearly as much as I used to, but since I had acne it will forever be a concern of mine.
What are your favorite Renée Rouleau Skin Care products and why? This is a hard question since there are so many amazing products.
Triple Berry Smoothing Peel. I LOVE how smooth it makes my skin look. I always see an immediate difference after using it.
Firm + Repair Overnight Serum. This has been a wonderful addition to the line in the last year and it’s especially brightening. My clients love it, too.
Moisture Infusion Toner. This been life-changing for me in terms of making my skin feel comfortable, and not dry.
How is Renée Rouleau Skin Care different from other skin care spas and lines that you have had experience with? We are different because we recognize there is more to skin then just dry, oily, and sensitive. We have nine skin types. I really love how we focus on customizing and educating rather than putting someone in a box and hoping for the best. We focus on skin and its overall health as well as the feel good aspects of a facial.
Why did you decide to become an esthetician and what is your favorite part of the job? From a young age, I was interested in beauty products and especially makeup. Having gone through acne myself, I quickly found that your makeup only looks as good as the skin under it. It helped that I had family members that did this for a living so my interest in the field of esthetics started in adolescence. I decided to become an esthetician just for the pure love of skin care, but also how can you turn down the opportunity to take out blackheads in the process (am I right??). My father was especially a good sport about this. Thanks, Dad! My favorite part of the Job is helping others by educating them and giving them the tools to achieve healthy, beautiful skin. Honestly, there’s nothing better.
What is a memorable success story of a time when you really made a huge difference in someone’s life? Recently I had a client that I had seen before but it had been years since I last saw her last. Her family is local, but she had since moved out of state for a job opportunity. I specifically remember this person because her skin was a lot like mine when I had acne. Knowing the frustration of going through that, I had tried to share with her things that helped me along with some product recommendations. The thing with acne is products can do wonders, but sometimes you also have to make adjustments to either your diet or lifestyle to see the biggest difference. Now, it had been probably at least 3 or 4 years since I saw this person and her skin looks amazing. She was in town with her family because she was getting married that week and she told me how much I had helped her with clearing up her skin. I was so humbled because even though I definitely remembered her, I honestly didn’t think she would remember me. It was a validating and an awesome feeling to know that I helped this person clear their face and feel more confident in the skin they have. To see how amazing her skin looked the week of her wedding was even better.
What is your favorite blog post that you seem to share with your clients most often? There are a couple. The one I like the most to help explain to others how to wash with a cleansing lotion. Then the sweat-proof sunscreen tricks that won’t clog your pores is also so informative for my breakout-prone clients.
What’s the biggest mistake you find that people are doing to their skin that they shouldn’t be? Over-exfoliating. There needs to be a balance.
What is your favorite skin care tip to share with clients? How to exfoliate and why it’s so important! I even have a full explanation why. For my long answer, it involves corn flakes and grapes. Come see me sometime and I’ll tell you all about it!
Fun fact about you: I was a collegiate cross country and track athlete.
If you could be an expert in something (other than skincare), what would it be? Probably fitness.
Do you have any advice for aspiring estheticians? Never stop learning and growing, this industry is always evolving and changing. Show your honest passion for what you do and people will trust you.
Favorite movie: The Wizard of Oz
Best vacation: Any vacation with family.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given? Don’t sweat the small stuff. In the end, it doesn’t matter.
If you were to create a slogan for your life what would the slogan be? Have faith.
