Is the Airplane Giving Your Skin Trouble?

The cabins of airplanes have extremely low humidity, which cause the skin to get extremely dehydrated (lack of water). The dry air looks for moisture where it can get it, and that means robbing it right from your skin!

Dry skin will become drier, but did you know that oily skin gets even oilier during flying? When the skin has no water, it attempts to compensate for the dehydration by producing more oil—which is the last thing that oily skin needs. For dry skins that have no oil glands, the skin will be depleted of its water content.

Bottom line: Airplanes can wreak havoc on the skin!

What Age Should I Start Using Anti-Aging Products?

Anti-aging products (particularly those with antioxidants) can start to be used as early as age 21.

But here is the important part: Choose anti-aging products appropriate for your skin type. Many cosmetic companies (not Renée Rouleau, of course) assume those who want anti-aging care must have dry skin. Zinc Oxide (You’ll love it in our Daily Protection SPF 30) … Read more

Wearing Scarves This Winter? The Skin on the Neck Requires Special Care

The skin on the neck is surprisingly far more sensitive than that of the face. It’s generally thinner and more reactive, and requires special care.

During the winter, when more people are likely to wear scarves, the friction caused from having fabric (particularly wool) touching the skin of the neck can cause a buildup of dry skin cells. This is also true for those who wear turtlenecks.

If the skin on the neck feels rough to the touch, then it’s time to give your skin a neck facial. (This treatment also works well on the chest, too.)

How to give your neck a facial:

Step 1: While looking upward to keep the skin taut, apply a facial scrub to the front and sides of the neck and massage lightly in circular motions for 60 seconds. Since the skin on the neck is delicate, it’s important to use a facial scrub that doesn’t contain natural grains such as walnut husks, apricot kernels, seed or shell powders as they can scratch and irritate the skin. We also recommend that you don’t apply a lot of pressure when using a scrub. Rinse well and wipe with our facial sponges or a baby washcloth… Read more
