Six French Beauty Tips

After many visits to France, what I know for sure is there are a lot of things the French do that we could learn from.

So here are my six favorite French beauty tips.

French Beauty Tip #1: Eat a healthy, well-balanced diet.

Whenever I’m in France, I’m always struck by the fact that I see so few people (both teens and adults alike) with acne. I have to believe this is due to the lower stress and less junk food lifestyle they live, as compared to Americans. My French nephew visited us over Halloween, and while he thoroughly enjoyed this American tradition, his parents were very strict in not letting him indulge in all the Halloween candy, whereas American parents may have been more lenient. The French love eating, and put a focus on preparing rich, delicious foods, but they eat smaller portions and don’t overindulge, which is why you’ll see less problems with obesity over there. I do believe that to a certain extent you are what you eat, and eating a healthy, well-balanced diet can make you look and feel your best.

Are French Women Converting to American Skin Care Products?

I recently returned from a trip to Europe where I attended Paris Beauty Week in France, an amazing trade show featuring new innovations in skin care ingredients and technology – a true playground for this esthetician! In addition, I met with clients to consult about their skin and visited my husband’s family.

Whenever I’m in France, I’m always observing how French women care for their own skin. This includes getting facials to talk with estheticians to hear about their approach to skin care as well as in-depth discussions with my French clients. (Read my French Skin Care Investigation.)

What I am noticing more and more through conversations with my French clients and colleagues, as well as my husband’s family members who are in the beauty business is how many French women are craving results from both their skin care products and professional facial treatments that they don’t feel are available in France. So it got me thinking, are French women converting to American skin care products and adopting our habits?… Read more

Renée Rouleau Attends Paris Beauty Week

Recently, I had the pleasure of attending the Beyond Beauty Paris trade show (also referred to as Paris Beauty Week), a three day conference with 22,000 attendees dedicated to the newest technologies and most innovative ingredients in skin care, as well as emerging trends in European spas. A trade show that’s right up my alley! My husband is from France, so I tacked this on to a trip to spend time with his family. (Rouleau is actually my French maiden name; I have a French married name as well.)

As someone who attends trade shows frequently in the U.S., it’s always interesting to be able to travel to a different country and observe what is going in another market in regards to beauty.

Here are some of my observations… Read more

The French Washcloth

When I travel to visit my husband’s family in France, and when I stay in French hotels, both in the U.S. and abroad, I’m always treated with what I consider a very cool, practical French invention – the pocket washcloth. (I’ve only ever seen this in France and French hotels so I’m assuming it was created by the French–after all, they did invent the facial and are known for meticulously caring for their skin.)

Many people wash either their face or their body using a washcloth, but having a square piece of terrycloth can be cumbersome while washing, because it can flop all over the place. The French have simplified the art of cleansing by making their washcloths into a pocket that you insert your hand into, so you can conveniently apply face cleanser or shower gel and efficiently cleanse without all the bulk of a normal washcloth. (In the picture is a wash cloth from my father-in-law’s house in France.)… Read more
