Where Exactly Should I Apply Eye Cream?

Eye cream should be applied only to the oribital bone around the eyes. Where is the orbital bone? With clean hands, gently press the skin under the eyes until you find the bone just at the top of the cheek bone. Follow it around the eyes with your fingers so you can actually feel the entire circular bone. This is the area where eye cream is formulated to treat.

Tips for applying eye cream:

-It’s important to avoid applying eye cream too close to the lash line as the product will actually end up in your eyes, picked up by your eyelashes. Every time you blink the hairs will lift microscopic amounts of product and it can eventually deposit into your eyes.  Anything that enters the eyes can be an obvious irritant and cause unnecessary puffiness.

-Apply eye cream from outward in to go against the smile lines.

-Eye cream should be applied in gentle patting motions with your ring finger (the weakest finger). Avoid rubbing and tugging, just pat gently.

Glasses or Contacts: What’s Best for Preventing Wrinkles?

SKIN FACT: The eye area is the first sign to show aging.  The skin in this area is very thin and is subjected to repetitive facial movements like smiling and squinting that weaken collagen and elastin fibers. Obvious movements like smiling are inevitable, but if you’re concerned about preventing wrinkles, you’ll want to avoid unnecessary wear and tear to that area. This includes stretching, pulling and rubbing of the skin.

So when choosing between glasses or contacts, glasses are the better choice for preventing fine lines and wrinkles since inserting and removing prescription contacts forces you to pull at the skin in the process. So if  you’re very concerned about wrinkles around the eyes, glasses are the least disruptive option. If contacts are the best choice for you, be gentle when pulling on the skin and be sure to use eye cream  (like Renée Rouleau Synergy Eye Cream) morning and night to keep the eye area moist and protected.

Does Eye Cream Make Your Eyes Sting?

Of all the beauty products one uses, people seem to have difficulty with eye cream the most.  Not that it is too rich or too thick or that it doesn’t do the trick—these are the least of the worries.  The biggest complaint I hear is that it makes the eyes sting or tear/water.  But is the cream really to blame?

When an eye product is used and irritation occurs, it is often assumed that the product is the problem.  This is the first conclusion drawn, when there are three other causes that are probably more likely:

-Synthetic Fragrance: This is the number one cause for skin reactions.  Synthetic fragrance is often an irritant and signs can range from mild itching and swelling to a red rash.  The eyes are a delicate area to begin with, and if your eye cream has this unnecessary ingredient, it can react poorly. (None of the Renée Rouleau skin care products contain synthetic fragrance.)… Read more

SKIN TIP: Prevent Wrinkles by Wearing Sunglasses

We know that sun damage causes lines and wrinkles, but they’re also caused by facial expressions (think of smiling as the cause of crow’s feet around the eyes). So whenever you’re outdoors, daylight causes unnecessary squinting and will accelerate the wrinkling process around the eyes. Always wear sunglasses when outdoors and choose ones with larger frames to cover a larger portion of the eye area.

Also, don’t put off getting your eyes checked, as squinting from blurry vision will most definitely accelerate wrinkles around the eyes.

Botox® Cosmetic is extremely effective for reducing wrinkles around the eyes and is offered at Renee Rouleau Skin Care Spas!
