While we highly recommend getting a professional chemical peel, do know that it is best performed from November to May, when less time is spent outdoors, to prevent exposing newly peeled skin to the sun.

Chemical peels help to:

-Fade post-breakout dark or red marks

-Reduce the appearance of lines, wrinkles, acne scars and chicken pox marks

-Lighten brown spots and freckles

-Create a smoother, brighter skin…

Read about the different types of chemical peels.

Note: For those with skin of color (African-American in particular), it’s best to have only light peels to prevent the risk of post-inflammatory hyper pigmentation. It’s always best to get a thorough consultation before having any chemical peels performed.

At Renée Rouleau, our professional peels offer very little downtime. Most clients will experience dryness and flaking for 4-7 days, but it won’t interfere with your day-to-day activities. See our list of corrective skin peels.

Since chemical peels give a great result, many people think getting them more often will make their skin look even better. Peels are best done in moderation.

Contact our skin care spas to schedule an appointment for a Skin Repair Program.

With all the recent advancements in results-driven professional skin procedures, it is now so much easier to attain healthy, glowing, younger-looking skin. And certainly as an esthetician, it gives me great pleasure to be able to help my clients solve their skin woes.

But what I’m seeing more and more in a woman’s quest to look younger is they get too many aggressive treatments that could actually be injuring the skin. They feel if a facial treatment doesn’t hurt, doesn’t burn, isn’t making their skin red or they aren’t peeling, it’s not doing anything—and this couldn’t be farther from the truth.

Let’s compare it to exercise and pretend you’re a marathon runner. We can assume you have an amazingly toned body, right? Well, not exactly. Running exercises your legs tremendously, but doesn’t really exercise your arms, abs and your back—to the extent it does your legs. You might also get leg cramps from tight muscles because you don’t stretch enough…

Now let’s compare it to your friend. She goes running, goes biking, does pilates, does yoga, works her abs with crunches, lifts weights, and does kick boxing. Do you think her body might be more toned and fit? Absolutely! It’s because she is working out her entire body and not just one type of exercise day in and day out. (Read our skin care tips on how to care for your skin before and after exercise.)

Nutritionists will also say that you need a variety of foods in your diet to get all the nutrients and vitamins it needs. You don’t want to eat the same foods day in and day out.

Your skin is the same. It needs a little bit of everything—not a lot of only ONE procedure. And in the case of chemical peels, every time you receive one, it injures the skin to repair itself (which is actually a really good thing) but in the process, it also stimulates inflammation and damaging free radicals that age the skin. That’s not bad once in a while, but if that’s all you are doing to the skin, those free radicals will running rampant that it may cause more harm as well as dehydrating the skin because your skin won’t be able to retain its natural moisture.

Note: it’s so important to be using anti-oxidants like our Vitamin C&E Complex every day to neutralize damaging free radical activity caused from aggressive treatments.

Bottom line: A variety of skin care procedures such as hydrating facials, ultrasonic exfoliation, microdermabrasion, light therapy, oxygen, Bio Visage, and chemical peels will all be beneficial in getting your skin healthy and younger-looking.

Schedule a consultation at our skin care spas and we’ll be sure to develop an effective anti-aging, results-oriented strategy that gives you beautiful skin.

Minimal downtime with maximum results.

What is a chemical peel?

A chemical peel involves applying a chemical solution (acid) to skin of the face to remove and exfoliate the outer layers of skin so that a clearer, more evenly pigmented, glowing layer of skin can appear. The new, regenerated skin is usually smoother and less wrinkled than the old skin. It is also instrumental in the stimulation of fibroblasts and creating new collagen. The new skin also is temporarily more sensitive to the sun, so daily use of sunscreen is a must. Depending on the type of peel, they are often repeated every 1-6 weeks to achieve the desired results…

*Caution: when it comes to chemical peels, it’s extremely important that the person administering the treatment is well-versed and experienced—if the peel isn’t left on long enough, there will be no effect on the skin; if it’s left on for too long, you run the risk of potential damage.

Here is more information about the various chemical peels available.

At Renée Rouleau, we offer a variety of corrective skin peels all with the goal in mind of giving aggressive skin-smoothing exfoliation but without the downtime and extreme irritation associated with chemical peels administered by a doctor. After all, who has the time to hibernate in their house for a week?

We love our Skin Repair Program. It’s a series of three chemical peels and three hydrating skin repair treatments given over the course of six weeks. It’s considered a controlled exfoliation since it’s not a one-time treatment. It gives amazing results in smoother, healthier skin with a smaller-pored, brighter, clearer-skin look.

Or try our at-home skin peel Triple Berry Smoothing Peel. It gives incredible smoothing to the skin. Our clients love it!
