Do Southern Women Have Fewer Wrinkles? Renée Rouleau Answers.

Clients ask me all sorts of questions, but one that I hear from my Dallas clients is “Do southern women have fewer wrinkles?” I’m asked this question because my first skin care spa was in Boston and I also grew up in Minnesota and Wisconsin, so they feel that I must have some insight.  I do.

To answer this properly, we’ll need to use a benchmark.  The true test of how the skin ages shows up on us years later.  We’ll use a 70-year-old woman as an example.  Women in this age range grew up for most of their lives unaware that sun exposure was the #1 cause of aging, and therefore did not wear sunscreen daily.

In the last 10 years, we have learned that 78% of all the UV exposure you get in a lifetime is from incidental exposure—the day-to-day exposure you get from driving in your car, and working in your home or office near windows. So truthfully, the wrinkles come not from who did more sunbathing, but more so, whose skin was exposed to more UV light over the course of a lifetime… Read more

Prone to Bruising and Broken Capillaries? Here’s Help!

It’s a fact that the predisposition to having weaker, brittle blood vessels and capillaries is inherited.  This genetic trait results in more frequent bruising of the skin and visibly red, dilated or broken capillaries. Read how your ethnicity determines how your skin will age.

While there are many topical skin care products that contain vaso-constricting ingredients (like lemon bioflavonoids, white tea, chamomile and vitamin C) to help keep capillaries strong to prevent dilation or breakage, it’s also important to treat these conditions from within the body.

One helpful tip is to orally take Vitamin C with Bioflavonoids daily as this helps protect against bruising, dilated or broken capillaries by strengthening capillary walls. This is also important for those with rosacea.

For those who get red easily, it’s important to use products exclusively your skin.  Check out our nine skin typesRead more

Avoiding Moisturizers To Avoid Breakouts?

In my experience, people will avoid using moisturizer for two reasons:

1. They have oily skin and feel that it’s not necessary.

2. They are afraid that moisturizer will give them acne blemishes.

I’m here to say that both of the above are NOT accurate.

Wearing moisturizer does not cause breakouts. Acne happens when the cells that line the inner pores fail to fall off properly, clogging the pore. This happens whether you moisturize or not.

Those with oily skin must use moisturizer—no matter what. This skin type doesn’t need additional oil, but it needs water and conditioners to keep it healthy and balanced. See our oil-free moisturizers, Sheer Moisture, Tea Tree Anti-Blemish Lotion, and Matte Moisture.

Did you know that NOT using a moisturizer would actually make your skin oilier? When your skin doesn’t have the proper water levels, the dehydration causes the skin to produce oil giving you oilier skin—the last thing those with oily skin want! … Read more
