Have You Gotten Your Annual Mole And Skin Check?

Despite much awareness about skin cancer and sun safety, many people often overlook the importance of getting an annual skin check at a doctor’s office to ensure that no mole or suspicious growth goes unnoticed.

On a recent trip to Dublin, Ireland, I passed by a mole screening clinic and thought to myself that it was a genius idea. In the States, dermatologists and doctors who you would typically see to get your annual mole check have an array of different specialties, but having a clinic where their specialty is JUST skin cancer screenings makes a lot more sense to me. Plus, by having clinics specifically named “Mole Screening Clinic” increases awareness about preventing melanoma. Irish people are often fair-skinned redheads, making them more susceptible to skin cancer, which is I’m sure why these clinics are more common. I’m sure in Australia there must be places like these as well. I wish there were places like this in the U.S., as these places can truly save lives…

This brings me to the point of encouraging people to get their moles checked. I think the fall, after summer, is a great time to get a full body skin assessment by a doctor. (I know that I’ll be doing this for sure.) I really encourage you to get an appointment today – don’t put this off. Melanoma is too serious of a disease to make your health a low priority.
