Do Cell Phones Cause Blemishes?

an iPhone on a table

Updated 9/8/15. Cell phones are not the cause of breakouts (the cause is way more complicated then this) but they can potentially make acne worse because adding additional bacteria to already infected blemishes can exacerbate them. To lessen the healing time for breakouts, it is important that you wipe down your phone daily to avoid unnecessary bacteria from getting onto the skin.

HOW TO CLEAN YOUR CELL PHONE: Take a wet wipe that does not contain alcohol or bleach (since they may damage your screen or the plastic) and wipe the phone thoroughly. Repeat daily or as necessary.

NOTE: Did you know that the face is the dirtiest part of your body simply because, without realizing it, you’re touching your face all day long? It’s not from your phone but directly from your hands. So whatever you touched with your hands will get on your face making the skin a breeding ground for bacteria—and this will definitely prolong breakouts. Be sure to wash your face every night with a well-formulated, cleanser to properly remove dirt, bacteria and debris…

    • Hi Nancy, I’m sorry to hear your daughter is having such difficulty with her skin. I would suggest that she schedule a virtual consultation with one of our expert estheticians. You can read more about that here. It would be really helpful for them to talk with her and see what is going on so they can make a very personalized plan for her.
