Why does the weather change cause my skin to get acne break outs?

During winter when the air is dry, the natural exfoliation process slows down, creating an accumulation of dead skin cell build up. When the weather starts to change in the spring, the increase in temperature triggers the skin to produce to more oil, and then get trapped and clogged under surface skin cell build up. Your skin is constantly on the defense, attempting to self-adjust to keep it protected from the environment. With the extreme temperature fluctuations, it’s just confused and doesn’t know what it’s supposed to do…

What can I do?

This is a time to adjust your skin care routine slightly, not go for a major overhaul. Many people feel like they need to switch their entire routine to acne products, but that’s over-compensating and will only leave your skin dried out and irritated.

A great way to address the recent breakouts is to temporarily switch to products using Salicylic Acid.
