No worries, help is on the way! Read on as I break down what to do about breakouts:
Why does the weather change cause my skin to get acne break outs? During winter when the air is dry, the natural exfoliation process slows down, creating an accumulation of dead skin cell build up. When the weather starts to change in the spring, the increase in temperature triggers the skin to produce to more oil, and then get trapped and clogged under surface skin cell build up. Your skin is constantly on the defense, attempting to self-adjust to keep it protected from the environment. With the extreme temperature fluctuations, it’s just confused and doesn’t know what it’s supposed to do… What can I do? This is a time to adjust your skin care routine slightly, not go for a major overhaul. Many people feel like they need to switch their entire routine to acne products, but that’s over-compensating and will only leave your skin dried out and irritated. A great way to address the recent breakouts is to temporarily switch to products using Salicylic Acid.
How does Salicylic Acid help acne breakouts? Salicylic Acid is a keratolytic beta hydroxy acid (BHA) famous for its ability to: -Smooth the skin without causing irritation, -Reduce acne-causing bacteria and oil to prevent blemishes -Penetrate the pores to help clear out impurities These properties not only help prevent acne, but also make it an excellent choice for preventing blackheads after a deep pore cleansing facial. For these reasons you’ll usually find Salicylic Acid in cleansers and moisturizers formulated for breakout prone skin as well as in acne spot treatments. It’s a fabulous ingredient with proven results in reducing blemishes. Here are the Renée Rouleau products that contain Salicylic Acid: AHA/BHA Cleansing Gel – dual action formula to promote clearer skin Tea Tree Anti-Blemish Lotion – a cooling blend of anti-bacterial ingredients to lessen acne break outs Triple Berry Smoothing Peel – a powerful blend of acids and enzymes to exfoliate and smooth the skin Daytime Blemish Gel – spot treatment that puts an invisible seal over blemishes, for use under makeup Bottom line: For most people, sudden break out activity is temporary and due to weather change. Incorporate in a few blemish-fighting products until skin starts to normalize, then you can go back to your regular skin care routine.
