Avoiding salty foods (especially at night) can definitely help prevent facial puffiness when you wake in the morning. Excessive sodium causes water retention resulting in excessive swelling of the eye tissue. If you are trying to avoid puffiness of the face (especially before a special event), it’s best to avoid salty foods at night and drink a lot of water to flush your system.

To reduce puffy and bloated skin—think COLD!

It’s a fact that cold temperatures shrink capillaries and stimulate drainage to reduce puffiness. Since it’s the cold that reduces puffiness, you can grab anything out of your freezer (ice, bag of frozen peas) and it will do the trick—as long as it is held on the skin for at least 10 minutes. Gel masks are also very beneficial because gels are naturally cold, but they will also hydrate the skin to soften lines and wrinkles. Apply a thick coat of a gel-based mask (like Renée Rouleau Azulene Gel Mask) to a clean face, leave on 15 minutes and rinse with COLD water. Follow with a calming moisturizer…

For an extra cooling effect, put Azulene Gel Mask in the freezer for 10 minutes before applying, to give an extra boost of cold.
