glycolic_serum_17_webSkin Care Tip of the Day: Many people will complain about their pores getting larger as they get older. They aren’t getting larger, but they can appear larger. Why? When your skin is young and the skin is tight, large pores (which are essentially small indents in the skin caused from oil production in your teenage years) won’t be very noticeable. As you get older, due to gravity and the weakening of the elastin fibers within the skin, the pores appear larger because they indent further into the skin since the skin is no longer pulled back as tight…

Can you shrink your pores? No! But you definitely can make them look smaller. The best way to reduce the appearance of large pores is to exfoliate often. By using a combination of both physical exfoliants (facial scrubs with round grains) and chemical exfoliants (like alcohol-free glycolic serums) on a regular basis, this will help remove surface dry cells so the opening of the pores are less deep making them look smaller. Another benefit of chemical exfoliants is they can get into the pores and help to keep them cleaned out.

Bottom line: you can’t shrink the pores, but you can definitely make them look smaller when using the right combination of products. Check out our nine skin types to see which exfoliating skin care products are best for your skin.
